Selling Your Home? Check Out These Tips

by Ike Paxton, CPI - Selling Your Home Tip Series #1

To get past the frustration of no offers or having a poor turnout during an open house, we have compiled a list of tips that you should do as the home owner that will help you get the offer!

  • Clean your house - vaccum, dust, wash all doors & windows, clean bathrooms, laundry room - No one likes a dirty home
  • Get rid of clutter - It's time to part from items you haven't used for the last 3 years.  Donate it to a local thrift store or the Salvation Army.
  • Manicure the yard - Mow the grass, pick the weeds, trim the bushes and trees, and maybe put a few colorful potted plants in front of the house.
  • Add a fresh coat of paint - around the trim on the windows, even paint the railings or the door.  If you paint the windows, make sure you do it the right way, otherwise you won't be able to open them up the next day!
  • Repair or Replace Broken Items -if an item on the house is damaged, spend the money to repair or replace it.  Do not do a quick fix to hide it.  Your only hurting yourself in the long run.
  • Fix the lighting - Replace old light bulbs with new ones.  During a showing if a light fixture doesn't turn on, chances are you just burnt your sale.
  • Stage It - Make your home inviting to others...your home needs to make the buyers feel warm and fuzzy and want to make it their new home.

These tips will help you increase the possibility of an offer.  Be patient, an offer might be knocking on your door soon.  Happy House Selling!
